€ 6,000 total prize value – Exhibits in Porec Museum, Croatia, and Trieste Photo Days, Italy – Maurizio Galimberti Jury president

New deadline for URBAN 2017 Photo Awards, international contest organized by Italian cultural association dotART together with media partners Photographers.it and Sprea Fotografia. Photos and projects can be submitted until Monday, June 12 at 23.59 CET.

The highest placing works (36 pictures + 1st portfolio) with be published on the competition’s website and will be displayed in a collective exhibit on October/November 2017, in Trieste during Trieste Photo Days 2017 festival. The total prize value has now reached € 6,000 thanks to URBAN’s international partners.

Main partner Poreč Museum (Istria, Croatia) will offer a 1.000 € value prize for 3 ranked projects from the “Projects & Portfolios” section. The projects will be selected directly by the curators of the museum  and displayed from July 31 to August 20, 2017 (tourist peak averaging 120,000 people in the summer time). The URBAN exhibit will be part of Kontaminacije/Contaminazioni, a cross-media event dedicated to photography, new media, performances and experimental theatre.

Technical partner Think Tank Photo, American company that produce professional photographic bags and accessories, will offer its bags and backpacks. Stroppa, created by a young Polish craftsman, will offer its straps mad out of high quality rope and natural leather. Media partners that will publish winning pictures are Lounge Magazyn, The Post Internazionale, DNG Photo Magazine, Street Photography Magazine and Prism Magazine.

Now in its eighth edition, URBAN sees every year thousands of participating pictures and hundreds of participants from all over the world. It is an always growing international contest, one of the very few that goes “over the boundaries” of Internet offering to photographers real visibility through dozens of international photo exhibitions. Only in 2016 URBAN realized 32 exhibitions displaying about 700 pictures. Behind it all, there is always the pursue of enhancement of photographic talent and quality.

Works will be selected by a prestigious Jury composed by Italian photographer Maurizio Galimberti (Jury President, international photographer and artist famous for its Polaroid mosaics), Monika Bulaj (photographer, reporter and filmmaker), Denis Curti (“Casa dei Tre Oci” museum in Venice art director), Elena Uljančić-Veki (director of Poreč Museum, Croatia), Aida Muluneh (Ethiopian photographer and founder of Addis Foto Fest, the biggest African photo festival), Angelo Cucchetto (founder of Photographers.it and Trieste Photo Days art director), Polish street photographer Ania Klosek, Indian naturalist photographer Rathika Ramsamy, Bob Patterson (Street photographer Magazine editor), Grzegorz Kosmala (doc! magazine photo editor), Karol Liver (Irish photographer and founder and chief editor of Prism Magazine), Rohit Vohra (one of Asia’s most prominent street photographers, co-founder of APF magazine), Mozart Mesquita (partner in FHOX, responsible for Fotografar SHOW, the biggest Photo Event of Brazil), Maja Briski (art critic, independent curator, art producer and graphic designer) and Christy Karpinski (founder and editor of F-Stop Magazine).

As Jury President, Maurizio Galimberti will choose and award URBAN 2017 Winner at the end of October during Trieste Photo Days 2017, international photography festival organized by dotART.

Other than regular prizes, URBAN gives the chance to the best ranked photographers to enter its tour of travelling photo exhibitions. Since 2011 URBAN has setup exhibitions in Poland (Krakow, Łódź and Warsaw), Hungary (Budapest, Pécs and Miskolc), Germany (Berlin), Cyprus (Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia), Latvia (Riga), Croatia (Poreč), Slovenia (Koper), Ukraine (Sumy), Colombia (Bucaramanga) and Italy (Trieste and Rome). The best photos will be published on URBAN unveils the city and its secrets photobook.
