URBAN Photo Awards is celebrating its 15th anniversary, inviting photographers worldwide to submit their final entries by June 16th, 2024. The prizepool has reached another peak at €45,900! Here’s a recap all the essential info and news for URBAN Photo Awards 2024
The deadline is approaching! This Sunday, June 16, 2024, will in fact be the last day to participate in the five sections of the competition. This is an unique opportunity for photographers to gain international recognition and showcase their work at Trieste Photo Days festival. The 4 day event includes solo and group exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, and talks by industry leaders. The competing works will be judged by an international jury chaired by Harry Gruyaert, Adam Pretty and Paul Gadd, who will personally select and award the winners at the award ceremony of the contest, Saturday 26 October 2024 in Trieste.
Five photo sections to showcase your talent
1) Single Photos
- Must fall within one of the following thematic areas: Streets, People, Spaces and Creative
2) Projects & Portfolios
- Sets of photos, linked to each other by a common trait. Sets like photographic projects, thematic portfolios, series, reportages and storyboards
3) URBAN Book Award & 4) Zine Award
- Section dedicated to extended projects. Authors submit drafts of their own photographic books and/or zine
5) URBAN Photo Arena
- The free UNDER 35 tournament style contest

New Special Prizes
Celebrating Patricia D. Richards
“The Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award” Special Prize, a tribute in memory of Patricia D. Richards, is aimed at photographers under 35 in the Projects & Portfolios section. Patricia’s friends and family in Plano, Texas, along with her extended community in Trieste, remember her as a mentor who bridged cultures and brought a unique perspective to urban photography. The italian photography expert, artisic director and curator Denis Curti will select the winner.
A Venice Biennale artist for URBAN
For the first time in URBAN history, all trophies and medals will be crafted by a Venice Biennale italian artist Giorgio Celiberti. Each winner will receive not just a trophy or medal, but a true piece of art history, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity that ensures its unique and irreplaceable artistic value. Giorgio Celiberti will also personally choose and award one winner among thousands from the Single Photo section with the “Special Prize for Artistic Sensitivity”.
