Final step before the podium: URBAN 2024 Winners Shortlist

After months of anticipation, submissions from talented photographers around the world, rigorous reviews, and careful judgment by our esteemed panel of jurors, we have finally reached the pivotal moment. Today, we proudly unveil the Winners Shortlist for the URBAN Photo Awards 2024. This shortlist represents the best of the best, carefully selected from an immense pool of exceptional entries.

The spotlight now shines on the two main URBAN categories: Single Pictures and Projects & Portfolios.


What is the Winners Shortlist?

The Winners Shortlist features photographers who have earned one of three titles: Winner, Honorable Mention, or Remarkable Reward. Our URBAN Jury evaluated and ranked all entries through a detailed process. To keep the final results a surprise, the Shortlist is be published alphabetically and categorized into: Single Pictures (Streets, People, Creative, and Spaces) and Projects & Portfolios.

Each shortlisted photographer will receive their title on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the URBAN Award Ceremony, part of the Trieste Photo Days Festival in Trieste, Italy. The URBAN Award Ceremony is free for all Festival visitors and will be streamed live on our social media channels.


Record-breaking participation

This year’s contest saw record-breaking participation, with our esteemed jury reviewing 17,000 photos, 550 projects and portfolios, and 115 books and zines from over 5,000 photographers globally.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our distinguished URBAN jury, whose expertise and dedication were instrumental in evaluating this year’s submissions. Their commitment ensured a thorough and thoughtful review process, contributing to the exceptional quality of this year’s shortlist.

The Award Ceremony

Save the date: the Award Ceremony will take place in the evening of Saturday, 26 October at the “Marco Sofianopulo” Auditorium of the Revoltella Civic Museum of Modern Art. For those who cannot make it, we will keep our social media channels (see list below) updated with the freshest news from the festival.

  • Harry Gruyaert will choose the Winner Overall from all the Single Photos best authors
  • Adam Pretty will name the Winner of the Projects & Portfolios section
  • Giorgio Celiberti will crown one author with the newest title this year: the Artistic Sensitivity Award
  • Live Final Match of the Under 35 URBAN Photo Arena Contest

Exhibitions at Trieste Photo Days

Trieste Photo Days is one of Europe’s most prominent photography festivals, celebrating its 11th edition this year. For two weeks, the city of Trieste will immerse visitors in the world of photography. The festival features a diverse range of activities, including visits to dozens of free exhibitions set in exceptional venues across the seaside city of Trieste.

The festival offers a full immersion in the art of photography, featuring dozens of free exhibitions hosted in exceptional venues throughout the seaside city. URBAN Exhibits: Unveiling the City will showcase a range of exhibitions in both unique urban locations and historic settings, highlighting the best works from the contest.

Trieste will once again become a hub for networking and collaboration among photographers, providing an inspiring environment for both emerging and established talents to connect and share their passion for the art of photography.
