Irina Werning
Irina Werning is a freelance photojournalist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, focusing on personal long-term projects. She holds an unusual academic background with degrees in Economics and History before obtaining a Master’s in Photojournalism in London. Werning gained significant recognition when Time Magazine featured her as one of nine Argentinian photographers to follow in 2015. Her photobook, Back to the Future, was also selected by Time as one of the best photobooks of 2014. Her distinguished career is marked by numerous prestigious awards, including the Ian Parry Scholarship (2006), the Burn Magazine Emerging Photographer Fund (2012), Sony World Photography Awards (2012, 2022), a World Press Photo award (2022), and the Unicef Photo of the Year (2022). Additionally, she has received multiple grants from the Pulitzer Center (2020-2022) and is a National Geographic Explorer (2022)
