Johan Lolos

Johan Lolos is a Belgium-based Photographer, and for the last 10 years his job has been to tell stories from around the world.

Born in Liège (Belgium) in 1987 from Greek parents, Johan Lolos started out his travel photography career in 2014 while on a 2-year long adventure in Australia and New Zealand that he went on just after graduating from a Master’s degree in PR. By capturing some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes, specifically in the mountainous region of Wanaka, NZ, this helped him gained a lot of attention on social media, and his work is now being followed by 500,000+ people across multiple platforms. He regularly works with brands who want to take advantage of his large community to amplify their message in an authentic, credible, transparent and engaging way and to extend their reach.

After completing a 5-month road trip through 17 countries in Europe, during which he was made an official Toyota Ambassador, he published in 2018 his debut book Peaks of Europe (Lannoo Publishers), available in 4 languages and which has sold over 10,000 copies throughout the world. Forbes listed Peaks of Europe amongst the best travel books of the year. Working so closely with a publishing house made him discover the wonderful world of photography books. Johan’s personal collection is fast approaching the 1,000 books, as can be seen on The Photo Book JunkieInstagram account he started to share his passion with the world.

In 2018, Johan Lolos was invited by the University of Namur to give a TedX talk about his journey as a photographer. Since around that time, he also has been interested in subjects broader than just the landscapes, while keeping the theme of travel as a common thread. Documentary and wildlife photography are becoming a more important part of his work. In 2019 he spent a few months traveling across Africa, while in 2020, just before the pandemic, he travelled to Haiti on assignment for Médecins Sans Frontières to document the humanitarian work of the NGO in the country.

Beyond his photography job, Johan Lolos is also a lecturer who shares his inspiring experience with all sorts of audiences from students to professionals. Since 2021, he’s been hosting the Blue Hour Podcast, a talk show about photography.
