Olga Karlovac
Olga Karlovac is a self-taught abstract and street photographer born in Dubrovnik and now based in Zagreb, Croatia. Originally trained as an economist, she turned to photography as a different means of expression. Known for her unique and expressive style, she works exclusively in black and white, often shooting after dark or in rainy conditions to capture fleeting moments and emotions. Her abstracted, dreamlike images, frequently set in Zagreb and Dubrovnik, blur the lines between figuration and visual poetry, creating an atmospheric and melancholic beauty.
Karlovac has gained significant recognition primarily through her self-published photobooks, including a noted trilogy (before winter, the disarray, escape) and her latest book “elsewhere” (March 2024). Her work has received several awards, including first places at the Julia Margaret Cameron, Pollux, and Chromatic Awards, Tifa Silver, and selection as a Photolucida Critical Mass Top 200 finalist (2022). Her book “Elsewhere” also received The Phoblographer’s Editor’s Choice award. She has collaborated with galleries, such as ECAD Gallery in London, and exhibited her work in group and solo shows worldwide. Her photography has been featured in various international publications.
