Paul Gadd will choose the winner of the “URBAN Book Award” 2024

Paul Gadd - URBAN Book Award jury commission

Paul Gadd will choose the winner of the “URBAN Book Award” 2024

The URBAN Book Award section is dedicated to extended projects (“dummies”, sketches of photo books), ideal for photographers who feel the limit of 12 photos set for the Projects & Portfolios section as a restraint. The award offers the winning photographer the opportunity to see their authorial project published as a paper volume and presented in the international setting of the Trieste Photo Days 2024 festival.

Paul Gadd will be one of the main guests of the event and will personally award the winner of the URBAN Book Award section during the Award ceremony of the contest, Saturday 27 October 2024.

In the next few days we will announce the other members of our international panel of Jurors: thousands of images will go through their eyes during the voting process. Prepare to have your work judged by a global assembly of photoghraphy connoisseurs, each bringing their unique lens to the vibrant world of urban photography.

Paul Gadd

Paul Gadd is a talented British artist and photographer who has found his passion in the art of photography. His interest in photography began during his studies at the Epsom School of Art, where he discovered his talent and creativity. He then decided to pursue his master’s degree in “Photography in the Arts” from Swansea Metropolitan University, which helped him further refine his skills.

In 2011, Paul opened The Print Room, a studio and gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he works and teaches photography. He also curated and followed exhibitions of emerging photographers, helping them find their professional path. In 2020, Paul moved to Seoul, and in 2023 he opened The Print Room, a new space to continue his artistic work and mentor new photographers.

Paul’s works are created through a meticulous process that involves shooting on film, followed by different mechanical interventions such as scratches. The prints obtained are then further modified by the artist using various techniques, including the ancient encaustic technique. These interventions result in unique pieces that tell his story, ranging from humor to dark atmospheres that are appreciated by collectors and galleries worldwide.

What’s New This Year?

Elevating our commitment to photographers, we’ve expanded the beloved URBAN Book Award. Now, embracing both polished photobooks and the raw, authentic charm of zines, the URBAN Book & Zine Award awaits your submissions. The Zine category encourages you to explore beyond these boundaries, offering a platform for more extensive projects that capture the urban sprawl in all its complexity, without the commitment to a full book.
Zines have emerged as a powerful medium for photographers to express their unique perspectives in a tangible, intimate format. This is your opportunity to weave your photographic tales into a zine that resonates with audiences far and wide. The author of the winning Zine will bask in a 2-night stay for 2 at Trieste Photo Days International Photography Festival. But that’s not all, the winner will have the possibility to sell copies of the Zine, sharing her/his vision with like-minded enthusiasts and collectors.
Submissions are open until June 16, 2024 on my.dotlogic.net.
