The first step towards the URBAN podium: here are the Selected Photographers!
Get ready to discover the champions of URBAN Photo Awards 2024!
This journey promises to be full of excitement and anticipation, culminating in October during the Trieste Photo Days festival. Join us in the vibrant coastal city of Trieste, located in the northeast of Italy. The final winners will be revealed during the Award Ceremony on Saturday, October 26, with accolades presented by our distinguished judges Harry Gruyaert, Adam Pretty, Paul Gadd, Federica Berzioli, and many others!
Announcement Phases
This year, the contest has achieved record numbers, with our extraordinary jury meticulously evaluating 17,000 photos, 550 projects and portfolios, and 115 books and zines submitted by over 5,000 photographers from around the world. Given this year’s exceptional participation, the Selected Photographers will be announced in two rounds! First, the photographers from the Single Images and Projects & Portfolios sections. Stay tuned for the Books and Zines category, which will be announced next week as we are still finalizing the selection process.
Here’s the roadmap to the Podium, featuring all five announcement stages for our main photography sections: Single Photos, Projects & Portfolios, Book&Zine:

2. Semifinalists – mid-July
3. Finalists – end of July
4. Winners Shortlist – mid-September
5. Final podium – Award Ceremony, October 26th 2024
Where’s my Name?
We are also preparing the battlefield for the over 680 photos received for URBAN Photo Arena, the Under 35 photography tournament. Participants will be contacted very soon with complete voting instructions!
Next, we will publish a shortlist for a new special prize, “The Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award,“ which received a total of 113 entries. Every Under 35 photographer who submitted for Projects & Portfolios is eligible for the Award.
Upcoming festival
Save the date for this year’s Trieste Photo Days – International Festival of Urban Photography, happening from October 24-27 in Trieste, the pulsing seaside cosmopolitan city in the heart of Europe.
This year, as usual, we’re curating a series of exhibitions and previews under the banner URBAN Exhibits: Unveiling the City. These exhibitions will fill city venues and expo halls in the months leading up to the festival in late October, starting in August as part of the two major satellite exhibition events of Trieste Photo Days: Trieste Photo Fringe and the Photo Days Tour. Keep an eye out for the upcoming calendar announcement!
