The legacy of a Venice Biennale artist for a new URBAN Special Prize
Giorgio Celiberti’s “Special Prize for Artistic Sensitivity”
In Search of the Extraordinary
What does it take to be an artist? At URBAN Photo Awards 2024, amidst the hundreds of talented photographers, only one exceptional voice will stand out as such. This year we welcome the “Special Prize for Artistic Sensitivity”: a one-of-a-kind award reserved for the photographer whose work captivates the sensibility of renowned Venice Biennale artist Giorgio Celiberti.
Only one photo among the thousands submitted at URBAN will receive the Special Prize, and be awarded with the Celiberti Trophy. A valuable metal stele that carries Celiberti’s legacy as well as prestige. Celiberti himself will hand craft the unique trophy statue, and personally hand it to the chosen photographer. An unmissable connection between two artists, happening at URBAN’s Award Ceremony on October 26th in Trieste, Italy.
The Bounty of Prizes
The URBAN Celiberti Trophy, with an esteemed value of €1200, is just one of the remarkable prizes awaiting the winner of the “Special Prize for Artistic Sensitivity.” In addition to this prestigious trophy, the recipient will also receive an invitation as a guest of honor to Trieste Photo Days 2024, including a two-night stay for two. Other rewards include 10,000 PhotoPoints worth €100, an invitation to the gala dinner, and participating in a collective exhibition. Furthermore, the winner will have their work published both online and in a photographic book, ensuring their talent reaches a broader audience.

Biography
Born in 1929 in Udine, Giorgio Celiberti gained recognition at the age of nineteen at the 1948 Venice Biennale, still the youngest artist ever presented at the world famous art exposition. His travels in Europe and the United States deeply influenced his art, especially his time in Paris in the 1950s. In 1965, the moving experience of the Terezin concentration camp inspired him to create works focused on that event. In addition to painting, he dedicated himself to sculpture, exploring a wide range of materials and themes, exhibited in international shows.
