The stellar jury of URBAN 2021 led by Gilden, Pellegrin and Cito
The jurors of URBAN Photo Awards 2021 can’t wait to see your work! It’s a unique opportunity to test your creativity internationally together with photographers from all over the world. There is time until May 31 to enter the contest with photos, projects or “dummies” (sketches of photographic books).
The composition of the jury is almost complete and boasts personalities of the highest level in the field of photography and visual arts.
To preside over this dream-team, a “super-commission” of three jurors, one for each section of the competition:
- Bruce Gilden (Magnum Photos), the President of the Jury, who will personally choose the Winner of the Single Photo section and will select the projects for the volume of the “Bruce Gilden Special Prize”.
- Paolo Pellegrin (Magnum Photos) will choose the Winner of the Projects & Portfolio section.
- Francesco Cito will choose the winner of the URBAN Book Award section.
URBAN Photo Awards 2021 jurors will evaluate submitted photos and projects through our online voting system. The works that will receive the highest score (ie the sum of the votes of all the jurors) will then be submitted to the three “super-jurors”.
The president of the jury Bruce Gilden will award the honorable mentions and will decide the first ranked for each theme: Streets, People, Spaces and Creative. Although he is a street photographer, Gilden will express his opinion without favoring one theme over the other, evaluating the photos in their essence according to his own criteria. Finally, he will choose the Winner Overall from among the four first-placed winners and announce the final podium at the Trieste Photo Days festival on Saturday 30 October 2021, during his video conference from New York.
The same principle will guide Paolo Pellegrin and Francesco Cito in their respective sections, with the only difference that both will physically be at Trieste Photo Days to reward the winners and hold meetings with the public.
Among the other jurors stand out Andréa Holzherr, head of the exhibitions of Magnum Photos, and international authors of the caliber of Jérôme Sessini (Magnum Photos), Manfred Baumann, Alexandra Sophie, Nick Turpin, Tatsuo Suzuki and many others. Find the updated list on this page.
Submissions to the contest will close on May 31st, but in the meantime the total prize value continues to rise, thanks to the recent arrival of the prizes signed by Manfrotto, Lowepro and Joby offered by the new technical partner Vitec Imaging Group.
And, speaking of prizes, some big news are on the way!
