New Yor Landscapes by  Julia Cody 

This is an ongoing investigative project based in New York City. My focus is on landscape and I am interested in viewing the city from the perspective of the land. In New York I am a cultural outsider and am drawn to explore the city from its margins and unnoticed spaces. From these outlying, overlooked places, I look back at the shiny, celebrated city centre and try to discover the landscape that makes this city possible. Using my camera to frame the edges and to search for the land beneath, I record the hidden places, things not presented and spaces ignored. Exploring the use and treatment of the landscape is my route to maybe understanding the place and its culture. I do not set out with a preconceived idea of what I may find, I am continually discovering, learning and questioning through the images. The project is constantly building and progressing and will have no conclusion.
