URBAN 2022: Valentina D’Alia wins the “New Buildings” special prize
Italian photographer Valentina D’Alia, with her shot The Bowl, is the winner of the New Buildings 2022 special prize, promoted for the third year in a row by URBAN Photo Awards in partnership with Matrix4Design, and dedicated to the icons of architecture who have changed the face of cities over the past decade.
The photo, selected by the founder of Matrix4Design Andrea Boni, portrays the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, designed by the MVRDV architecture firm under the guidance of co-founder Winy Maas. Opened in 2021, it has an ovoid shape with a roof that is wider than the base and is covered with mirror panels that reflect the landscape.
“The choice of the winning photograph of the New Buildings 2022 Award”, writes Andrea Boni, “fell on the shot The Bowl by Valentina D’Alia for her ability to redefine the identity of a unique building of its kind, fully grasping the intention of the architect who designed it. In this shot, in fact, we concretely visualize the link between the structure and the urban landscape that welcomes it, in a relationship of interaction and mutual exchange that well represents the architectural meaning of the project.”
Valentina D’Alia will be awarded together with the other winners of the URBAN Photo Awards on Saturday 29 October 2022 during the Trieste Photo Days festival.
In the meantime, the group exhibition of the 10 finalists can be visited from 11 to 25 October 2022 at the Turri Showroom in Via Borgospesso 11 in Milan. Inauguration: 11 October at 6.00 pm. On display photos by: Alessandro Gamberini, Alma Bibolotti, Angiolo Manetti, Gabriel Caneda, Giada Catanoso, Giuseppe Cardoni, Hiran Perera, Ingrid Gielen, Maria Cristina Pasotti, Valentina D’Alia.
