URBAN Photo Awards is excited to inaugurate the first collective photography exhibition of URBAN Exhibits at Trieste Airport. This series of exhibitions curated by URBAN, which reveals the city in anticipation of the 11th edition of Trieste Photo Days – International Photography Festival, scheduled from October 24 to 27 and November 2 and 3, 2024, celebrates the creativity and photographic talent of authors from around the world.

URBAN is proud to have valuable partners such as Trieste Airport, which has hosted photographic exhibitions from August to October for years. This year, visitors to Trieste Photo Days who choose the airport as their arrival and departure point for the festival will have the opportunity to admire the best of the international contest. The extraordinary images of hundreds of authors from around the world will be curated and specially designed for the exhibition space “Furio Lauri.

Trieste Airport is pleased to initiate collaborations with local artistic and associative entities in the exhibition area on the first floor, with the aim of showcasing the beauty and artistry of Friuli Venezia Giulia to all arriving and departing passengers.

A record in traffic and new routes

The continued expansion of Trieste Airport, which is rapidly emerging as a leading regional hub, is attracting a growing audience to its photographic exhibitions.

With passenger traffic reaching nearly 933,000 in 2023, marking a 33.5% increase compared to the previous year and a 19% increase compared to 2019, the airport has set a new historical record. The summer 2024 season, with the opening of the Ryanair base, has expanded the number of direct destinations to 22, including Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Cracow, Dublin, London, Malta, Milan, Paris, Rome, and Valencia.

The first six months of 2024 have seen a 42% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period last year, suggesting a further record of over one million passengers for this year. A new direct connection to Bucharest operated by WizzAir is expected for the winter season.

This growing influx of visitors offers an important opportunity to discover and appreciate the work of URBAN authors and to visit an internationally significant event like Trieste Photo Days, further consolidating the airport’s role as a cultural showcase and promoter of excellence.

Four thematic sections

The URBAN 2024 exhibition, visible from August 2 to 31, 2024, is an exhibition that celebrates urban diversity and beauty through the lens of 99 authors from 28 countries. The curation of the exhibition is divided into four thematic sections: URBAN Animals, URBAN Kids, URBAN Silhouettes, and Colors of the World. Each section is a vibrant tapestry of images that interact with each other, featuring photographic compositions of diptychs, triptychs, and visual compositions.
