URBAN Photo Arena 2024: The Challenge Has Begun!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived – URBAN Photo Arena 2024 is here! This international photo contest celebrates the talent of young Under 35 photographers with a format akin to knockout rounds in sports tournaments. Let’s dive into the action as photographers around the globe begin casting their votes in the thrilling first phase of the contest, totaling more than 600 photos!

Battle through 3 Exciting Phases

1) Group Phase

All Arena photos are divided into 16 groups at random. This year, the competition is fiercer than ever, with each voter assigned to either Alpha (groups 1-8) or Beta (groups 9-16). This ensures a fair voting process where you never vote for your own section, adding an element of surprise and impartiality to the competition.

2) Knockout Phase

The top 4 photos from each group advance to the knockout phase, creating a bracket-style competition. We will all witness 64 outstanding photos battle it out through rounds from 64 to 32, then 16, 8, until the final 4. Follow the intense competition live on the URBAN website and see who emerges victorious! The bracket will be published next week when the first phase closes.

3) Voting LIVE

The final phase sees the top URBAN Jury selecting the winners during the prestigious Trieste Photo Days festival on October 25th and 26th, 2024. It’s the culmination of months of hard work and creativity.

Every Vote counts!

Arena isn’t just about winning accolades – it’s about celebrating perseverance and photographic intuition. Each vote propels a photo closer to victory, and voters earn points as their chosen photos advance.

The “Best Voter” Award recognizes the participant with the most accumulated points by the Semifinals round, encouraging qualitative voting and ensuring every participant has a chance to shine.

Spotlight on Cracow

We’re thrilled to partner with the School of Creative Photography in Krakow, Poland. The top-ranked photographer will win a six-month scholarship to attend the School course in english language! If the winner can’t attend, the prize will go to the next highest-ranked photographer. This is a fantastic chance for a young talented photographer to continue growing and improving their skills.

URBAN Photo Arena is made possible with the support and contribution of Fondazione Pietro Pittini.
