URBAN Photo Arena: the contest for the next generation of photo talents
Introducing URBAN Photo Arena, the URBAN section where hundreds of young Under 35 photographers show their passion by participating in a new exciting format competition. Think of it as a thrilling sports tournament, but instead of teams, we have individual photos battling for the podium. The competitors are increasing day by day, as we register an incredible affluence of subscriptions worldwide.
The path to victory
In the first phase, photographers submit their best free-themed photo, each one eager to make their mark in the Arena. The submissions will close on June 16th, and the real game will begin.
Every week, like in a sports match, the photos go head-to-head, and here’s the twist: the photographers themselves are the jury. They’ll cast their votes to determine the winners of each round, mowing the most captivating images forward. As the competition progresses, only the best photos advance to the top of the bracket.
An international stage
From the Semifinals stage on, only our Top 3 URBAN Jurors will judge the matches. The voting will be done live at the 11th edition of Trieste Photo Days – the festival in the heart of Europe that celebrates urban photography.
- Friday 25 October 2024: Semifinals voted by Adam Pretty and Paul Gadd
- Saturday 26 October 2024: Final match voted by President of URBAN Jury Harry Gruyaert during the festival Award Ceremony.
The contest can be won in two ways: in addition to the traditional podium with the best photos voted by the global jury, perseverance in voting and photographic intuition in knowing how to choose the winning photo are also rewarded. The “Best Voter” Award is conquered by the participant with the most points accumulated within the Semifinals round. You can follow the evolution of the contest on the URBAN site, where we will update the bracket with the voters’ points.

A remarkable opportunity
This year, we aim to showcase the talent and creativity of young artists by making Arena completely free! We want to support the next generation of photographers by giving them a chance to win the amazing prize pool, as well as fantastic opportunities for networking: making this the perfect platform to gain international exposure and visibility.
URBAN Photo Arena aims to discover, support and reward UNDER 35 photographers by offering them a prestigious exhibition space during the 11th edition of Trieste Photo Days. Thanks to the support of the Pietro Pittini Foundation, one URBAN Photo Arena 2023 participant who has distinguished themselves through originality and artistic value will be offered the opportunity for visibility.
