URBAN Submissions close at Record-Breaking Numbers thanks to its growing Photo Community
Unprecedented Achievement
This year, the URBAN Photo Awards have reached unprecedented heights, breaking all previous records and setting new benchmarks in the world of photography contests. With overwhelming participation from photographers around the globe, the fifteenth edition has truly been a landmark event.
Response and Participation
We extend our sincere gratitude to over 5,000 photographers from various corners of the world who have embraced the challenge of our contest. We wish each participant the best of luck in their creative journey and in the upcoming stages of the competition. The response to this year’s contest has been extraordinary. We received an astounding 17,000 photo submissions, alongside more than 550 Projects & Portfolios, and over 115 Books&Zines, making this the most successful edition to date.
Support for Young Talent
URBAN is dedicated to nurturing emerging photographers Under 35 through specialized initiatives, including the tournament-style contest URBAN Photo Arena. This year, participation has surged significantly, with an impressive 687 entries received. These talented young photographers will soon be invited to participate in the Arena, where they will vote in the photo battles.
The newly introduced URBAN Special Prize “The Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award” highlights the profound storytelling capabilities inherent in photography. Named in tribute to the late photographer, teacher, and mentor Patricia D. Richards, this award has garnered significant interest with 113 eligible candidates participating in the Projects & Portfolios section. It underscores the pivotal role of photography in conveying narratives and creative visions, championing Richards’ enduring influence and commitment to nurturing emerging talents.
Reflecting on this record-breaking edition, we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming participation worldwide. At URBAN, we are committed to supporting the voices of our photo community through various media channels—both online, via social media, and through exhibitions held in prestigious locations in Trieste and beyond. We believe that Photographers serve as witnesses to a dynamically evolving world, offering diverse perspectives and narratives. Our goal is to gather and exhibit at the Trieste Photo Days festival all these voices that reflect our rapidly changing world and its people.
